This term our cross-curricular activities and work will be inspired by our learning theme of 'Autumn Harvest'. We will be learning about harvest, having a local farmer visit us with a tractor and harvesting our own produce. We will also be learning about the season of autumn, learning about different animals in our local environment and using the season to inspire lots of our activities and creative projects. Later in the Autumn Term we will be learning about Space.

Our author this term will be Nick Butterworth and we will be reading lots of his books paricularly from his 'Percy the Park Keeper' series . We will use our wonderful outside spaces in every weather, watching the seasonal changes from summer into autumn and winter. We will explore and utilise our outside spaces and our Forest Site as much as we can. Our Forest sessions will usually be on a Thursday Morning.
In Literacy, through our daily phonics and reading sessions using the Read Write Inc phonics scheme, we will be working on recognising the sound and shape of Set 1 letter sounds and blending these to make words. We will be holding a Parent Phonics Workshop to show how we teach phonics at Knightlow and how you can help at home. Your child will has access to the online book when they are working at Read Write Storybook level. We will work on developing our fine motor, dexterity and core strength to improve and develop our handwriting skills. Each term we will be developing our Reading Area , inspired by our learning theme and stories and non-fiction texts that we have read. at the beginning of the term we will be using Nursery Rhymes as part of the whole school poetry learning.

We will be using Numicon, Number Blocks and other practical resources to support and enhance maths learning. We will be using the NCTEM Mastering Numbers as well as White Rose Scheme to underpin learning activities. Through practical play activities and games there will be daily opportunities for developing a deeper understanding of number through continuous play provision. Throughout the year we will be working on recognising and writing and having a really good understanding of numbers 1-20. Through practical activities in the classroom and using our outside spaces, children will be encouraged to develop problem solving skills, use subatising, develop awareness and understanding of different number patterns and hopefully develop confidence and enjoyment when using maths and number. We will also work on recognising the properties of shape around us as well have an understanding of space and measure too. If your child would like to practice their maths skills they have access to online games and activities on Numbots.
There will of course be lots of opportunities to be creative, develop imagination, explore and investigate and be physical through daily continuous play provision.
Days that your child will be going to Forest Learning will usually be on a Thursday and PE sessions will usually be on a Wednesday afternoon . This term will be moving in a range od ways and learning about the effects that activity has on their bodies. Please ensure that your child wears PE into school on Wednesday and Thursday (TBC)
WOW vouchers wil be sent home for you to share WOW moments of learning that your child has done at home. We look forward to seeing what you are getting up to at home
